2016 Annual Ferris Cup Golf Competition Friday 24th June

The annual competition took place at Lisburn Golf Club on Friday 24th June and proved to be one which will not be forgotten for a while. The early starters got away and enjoyed the best part of the day but play was suspended at 11.30am due to a heavy downpour which left parts of the course under water.
Thankfully play was resumed at 12.40pm, due mainly to the hard work of the greenkeeper and his staff and everyone got back to the business in hand. Unfortunately the weather came back to haunt us and at 2.30pm the Club had no option but to close the course and so the competition was cancelled.
It threw the organising committee into a state of disarray as this was the first time in living memory the Cup and the Trophy has not been presented to an outright winner.
Despite protracted discussions with the Golf Club and a number of participants, it has proved impractical to try and reschedule the competition for later in the year.
The committee would like to thank all those who turned up and indeed, those who started out and persevered with the weather in order to try and complete their round and apologise for the delay with the discussions after the course closure.
We would also like to thank the Lodges who have, once again, so generously supported our competition which is run solely to raise money for local charities and we have still been able to make a generous donation to the two charities involved, who both look after seriously ill children in N.Ireland.
The competition is booked for the last Friday in June next year, so please bear it in mind when planning your golfing calendar for 2017.
Once again thanks to everyone for being so understanding on the day.
